How Does Smoking Affect Unborn Babies?

Smoking during pregnancy can harm your baby.

  • Your baby may be too small
  • Premature
  • Have breathing problems including chest infections and asthma. These last a lifetime.

Smoking can also:

  • Increase the risk of cot death
  • Increase the chance of stillbirth

Smoking during pregnancy can mean poor health for the mother too, including:

  • Miscarrige
  • Bleeding
  • Nausea

If you stop smoking during pregnancy you will benefit from:

  • Fewer complications
  • Less morning sickness
  • Have a more content baby after birth

What can you do for your unborn baby?

  • Stop smoking! It is never too late to stop
  • Do not let other people smoke near you or your baby
